Bakkesmod: How to install the best Rocket League mods and plugins (2024)

When playing Rocket League on PC, there are a large number of mods and plugins that enhance the experience, mostly coming with the mod called Bakkesmod. Many players use these plugins to alter the look of their car, customize their training and even install funky settings that add invisibility and aimbots to their private games (none of these mods actually give players an advantage in online games).

For those that want to add some spice to their own Rocket League games, here’s how to install Bakkesmod, some of the most useful options and which plugins we recommend. Also, while the use of third-party mods is not prohibited, the use is at the players’ own risk, though Bakkesmod should not result in players getting banned.

What is Bakkesmod?

Bakkesmod is a third-party mod that adds new features to Rocket League. One of the most popular features is to add any item in the game to your car, including the Alpha Boost, which goes for thousands of dollars on the player market these days. While the items are only local and other players can’t see them, it’s a useful feature to try out items or use combinations that are not available in-game, such as a completely black or white car.

Other popular features are the free play plugin, where players can send the ball flying in any direction with the press of a button to make free play training a little more interesting, and the POV goal replay option that shows the goal scorer’s point of view in online matches during a replay.

The possibilities are nearly endless, as anyone with coding experience can make a plugin for themselves.

How to install Bakkesmod

Installing Bakkesmod is easy. Simply download the installation file and let the software do its thing. Once installed, it will inject itself into Rocket League and allow players to open the console in-game with F2. This is available for both the Steam version and the Epic Games version. The mods on the homepage are the pre-installed plugins that come with Bakkesmod and can be played around with in free play and custom training. The tabs at the top show all the other options.

What plugins to use?

To talk about all available plugins would require a novel, so we’ll keep it to 10 plugins that we recommend. Bakkesmod comes installed with the free play plugins, so there’s no need to download those separately.

AlphaConsole for Bakkesmod

This mod used to be a separate mod and even a bit of competition to Bakkesmod, as it had many of the same features. But after the creators called it quits, they worked together to incorporate it into Bakkesmod. This mod allows players to alter the textures of the ball, the goal defense textures (to replace the shield textures with your favorite team), add underglow to cars, and many more unique options. It is one of the larger plugins, so version updates when Rocket League updates come out take more time.

RocketStats

Those who play to rank up might want to keep track of the current session’s stats. This plugin continuously shows the MMR, wins, losses and streak. Another option for this is Session MMR and streak tracker with a different UI.

Rocket Plugin

This plugin allows players to join, host and manipulate private games. This not only gives players the option to make games with custom settings and otherwise impossible settings (such as reversed gravity or sticky wheels to stick to the ceiling), but also allows players to play in a lobby with custom-made workshop maps.

Instant Suite

Tired of re-queuing after a match and manually selecting free play as you wait for the next match? Instant Suite streamlines players’ experience by automatically queuing up, entering free play or exiting the match when a game ends. This is a customizable quality-of-life feature for some smooth ranked sessions.

Replay itemmod

For content creators, Replay itemmod is a godsent. This plugin allows players to change car designs in their replay files. From the car model to the decal, if you don’t like something about a car in a replay file but still want to use it in a video or screenshot, it can be changed with this plugin.

Dollycam, included with Bakkesmod

Curious how content creators make those incredible montages with amazingly smooth camera movements? Dollycam is the answer. This plugin lets players to set up a camera path in their replays, which the camera will then follow. This creates those beautiful cinematic shots that editors often use. This plugin is included with Bakkesmod by default.

Hitbox plugin

The hitbox plugin puts the actual hitbox around the car. This shows how the car matches up with the hitbox and can be useful for knowing why your car interacts with the ball the way it does.

Dribble trainer

This plugin does exactly what it says: it puts the ball on top of the player’s car and returns it there when it hits the ground. It also resets the ball on top of the car when it is flicked a certain distance away, and also provides the option to launch the ball to get better at catching it with your car. It is very useful for players who are trying to improve on ball control.

Freeplay Checkpoint

With Freeplay Checkpoint, players can (you guessed it) set checkpoints in free play. This is useful for players who want to keep trying a certain move without having to set up a completely new custom training. With a simple press of a button, the play is reversed and reset to the previously determined checkpoint.

FPS Cap

Letting Rocket League run at 250 FPS in the main menu might be considered a waste of resources. FPS Cap lets players set an FPS cap in the main menu to keep the computer nice and quiet in between matches.

Much more to experiment with

There are countless plugins to fit a player’s needs. Some of the ones we mentioned are useful while others are simply for fun. The Bakkesmod plugin website is chock full of creative ideas, such as first-person mode, stadium color changer and FIFA mode. And if there’s something you need but doesn’t exist, it can probably be made.

Keep in mind that the creators of the plugins need to update the plugins separately when a new Rocket League update comes out, though Bakkesmod tends to be quick with updates. Custom plugin makers may be a bit behind at times, but rarely too far.
